Receiver Design for Passive Millimeter Wave (PMMW) Imaging

چکیده

Passive Millimeter Wave (PMMW) sensors are used for remote sensing and security applications. They rely on radiometric receivers to sense very small power differences. The performance of radiometric receivers should be characterized in different ways than communications and radar receivers. In communications we typically think in terms of carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR) or signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) relating a generated signal to noise floor. In a PMMW system, the signal sources are random white ‘noise’ resulting from black body radiation from objects in a scene. The power emitted by an object is proportional to its temperature on a Kelvin scale (relative to absolute zero) and contrast is achieved in a PMMW image by spatial correlation of temperature differences within the scene.

Advanced MMIC Receiver for 94-GHz Band Passive Millimeter-Wave Imager

In this paper, we present the development of an advanced MMIC receiver for a 94-GHz band passive millimeter-wave (PMMW) imager. Our configuration is based on a Dicke receiver in order to reduce fluctuations in the detected voltage. By introducing an electronic switch in the MMIC, we achieved a high resolution millimeter-wave image in a shorter image collection time compared to that with a conve...

Super–Resolution Restoration and Image Reconstruction for Passive Millimeter Wave Imaging

According to blackbody radiation theory [1], all substances at a finite absolute temperature will radiate electromagnetic energy. Passive millimeter-wave (PMMW) imaging system forms images by detecting the millimeter-wave radiation energy from the scene and utilizing the differences of the radiation intensity[2,3]. Although such imaging has been performed for decades (or more, if one includes m...

Passive millimeter-wave imaging with compressive sensing

Passive millimeter-wave (PMMW) imagers using a single radio-meter, called single pixel imagers, employ raster scanning to produce images. A serious drawback of such a single pixel imaging system is the long acquisition time needed to produce a high-fidelity image, arising from two factors: (a) the time to scan the whole scene pixel by pixel and (b) the integration time for each pixel to achieve...

Optical Performance Analysis Using a Point Spread Function and Modulation Transfer Function for W-band Pmmw Imaging System Based on Quasi Optics Focused Array of Dielectric Rod Waveguide Antenna

The appropriateness of dielectric loaded antenna for the passive millimeter wave imaging application has recently been demonstrated. In this paper, we analyze the optical performance of the passive millimeter wave (PMMW) imaging system based on a 1D focal plane array (FPA) of dielectric rod waveguide (DRW) antennas. A first step in the design process is to analyze the image quality potential of...
